I have some incredibly exciting news to share today…
Gotham and I wrote a book!
It’s called—big shocker here—Religion of Sports, and it’s coming out on December 5. But you can preorder it now at the button below or wherever you buy books (support your local bookstore!).
The book is similar in theme to the stories we share every week on this newsletter. It explores why we care about sports, why they matter, and how they provide joy, meaning, and richness to our lives. In the end, the book acts as an argument: that sports aren’t just like a religion. They are a religion.
It’s not just us waxing poetic from atop a lofty perch. Throughout the book, we weave in stories of some of the legendary athletes that we’ve worked with over the years—icons like Tom Brady, Simone Biles, LeBron James, Serena Williams, and so many more. Plus, for all of you who love The Word, there are stories from the far-flung corners of sports in there too; everything from cricket fields in Mumbai to dirt track racing in the Carolinas to sprinting in the Paralympics. There are some treasures in this book, and I know you’ll love it. Gotham and I are very proud of it.
And don’t just take it from us! The early reviews are rolling in, and others seem to like it as well:
Booklist gave Religion of Sports a starred review, saying that the book, "delivers exactly what his numerous fans have come to expect: in-depth, knowledgeable coverage and analysis of all kinds of professional athletic endeavors. . . . This is an entertaining and thought-provoking offering sure to have wide audience appeal."
Kirkus wrote that it’s, “A celebration of sports as a vehicle for enlightenment, moral education, and spiritual satisfaction. . . . A thought-provoking pleasure for spiritually minded sports fans."
So there you have it! Did I mention that the book is available now for preorder? Preorders are key for any book, so please spread, ahem, The Word! And if you need any holiday gifts…well, I’ve got a suggestion…
Happy reading!
